Vial of Life DocumentsA Vial of Life can help you receive proper medical treatment from an emergency medical technician (EMT) if you become incapacitated.
Here's how it works. EMTs are trained to look in your refrigerator for medications because many, like insulin, must be kept cold. Knowing which medications you're taking is of great help when diagnosing an illness.
When an EMT checks your refrigerator, your Vial of Life will be found. The vial is a prescription pill bottle with your detailed medical history recorded on an information sheet inside. Many times, this information is vital to your treatment. And, when time is of the essence, you don't have to rely on your spouse's memory to recall your medications or, if alone, worry about the EMTs not receiving this information.
A Vial of Life sign is also critical. It should be placed in a visible location that quickly directs the EMT to your Emergency Information Sheet.
